Couples Counselling
For couples who want to stay together - but keep getting stuck
Most couples who come to me care deeply for each other. They want stability, connection and teamwork, yet the arguments, misunderstandings and personality differences make everything feel tense and unpredictable.
Many have been hurt in previous relationships and worry that old wounds may be shaping new patterns. What they want is clear: a calmer relationship, a healthier dynamic, and confidence that they can move forward together.
How I work with couples
My approach is active and structured. I listen carefully, ask questions to understand the pattern beneath the conflict, and help you both see the cycle you are caught in. I believe most relationship problems come from the dynamic, not the people. When we change the cycle, everything changes - communication, intimacy, trust and the ability to solve problems as a team.
You will leave sessions with a clearer understanding of what is happening between you - and what to do differently.
Break repeating arguments
Understand personal and neurotype differences
Repair trust (including after betrayal)
Close emotional distance
Build new patterns of communication and fairness
What Sessions Feel Like
1. Arrival
You come into the space, settle in and can choose tea or coffee if you'd like.
2. Check-in
We talk about how you are today, what's been happening and what feels most important.
3. Review of any goals
If we agree on anything to focus on between sessions, we check in on that progress.
4. Choosing today's focus
Some clients come with a clear topic; others are unsure. Both are normal. If you don't know what to talk about, I will help you find the thread.
5. The Work
This might involve talking through events, understanding patterns, developing new skills, planning practical steps, or exploring deeper emotional themes. The pace can be gentle or more directive depending on your needs.
Homework between sessions
Most couples will receive exercises to try at home. These may be practical agreements, communication tasks, reflection prompts or small changes designed to shift the pattern you are in. The goal is to help you make progress faster and bring real change into daily life.
The Space
Couples sessions take place in my indoor therapy room - a warm, comfortable space with houseplants and soft lighting. You’ll usually meet my cat, Milly, a friendly white ragdoll.
Sessions are in Sturry, just above Canterbury town. There is free parking outside and it’s easy to get to.

Online Sessions Available
Couples counselling can also take place on Zoom, and many clients find it just as effective and engaging as in-person work. Ideally you sit together in the same room, but sessions also run smoothly from separate locations when needed — perfect for busy weeks or travel.

Milly-cat will be observing our work. Those with allergies may prefer online!

Choosing the right counsellor matters, and the best way to know if we’re a good fit is a brief conversation. I offer a free 15-minute phone call where you can get a sense of my approach, ask questions and see how it feels to talk with me. There is no pressure to book further sessions. If it feels right, we will arrange your first appointment and take things from there.
